The A-Team

Come on.

You knew it was coming.

Lemme preface this post by saying that, if you didn't already know it, I am a HUGE A-Team fan.  Easily one of my favorite TV shows of all time, if not my favorite.  So for this movie to actually be made is a bigger deal, to me, than BDS.  Seriously.

This movie had the potential to be really awesome (explosions, crazy Murdock, BA pitying fools, etc.) or it could have been really shitty (it's brought to you by some of the same people who made the Charlie's Angels movies).  Luckily, it was awesome.

For those not familiar with set up, a special ops team is set up and convicted for a crime they didn't commit.  They bust out and attempt to clear their names only to have MPs and the CIA hunting them down.  Thing is, this team is the best of the best and always has a plan or two up their sleeves.  Even if the plan is insane.

If you like the TV show, you will not be disappointed.  This was an updated version of the show.  No reimagining bullshit, no making fun of it, it was true to what you already know.  Even if you aren't familiar with the show in the first place, you'll probably like the movie and understand what is going on because they explain it very well.  Might not get some of the nods to the show, but it won't detract from the movie.  If you like action, then you'll like it.

Some things that are a little different from show are pretty interesting, too.  For instance, in the show, we never saw how they became a team and the movie opens up with that.  In this version, all 4 of them were convicted and in the show Murdock was not included with the charges.

I do have to say that I both disappointed myself and then redeemed myself in the span of 5 minutes of the movie though.  I disappointed myself because I missed the cameos.  Dirk Benedict (original Face) and Dwight Schultz (original Murdock) were in it, and I missed them.  But I caught the A-Team related Star Trek reference that was apparently in the same scene they were.  And I was the only one in the theater that caught it because I was the only one laughing at that particular moment.  So there.

In short, go see it.  If you like action movies, you will not be disappointed.  And they, of course, left it wide open for sequels.

Re: The A-Team

Question: Did BA have the "Pity" and "Fool" tats in the original show? Or was that just their way of paying tribute without the corny dialogue?

Re: The A-Team

I was a big A-Team fan as well. I will be seeing this, but likely renting it as the wife is not such a fan. In fact Peaches, I don't think I ever met a woman who really like it. You're unique, but I'm sure you already know that.

I don't recall BA having any Ink in the series. Just the Mohawk and 40lbs of jewelery.....

Re: The A-Team

BA did not have ink in the show.  I'm sitting here thinking about it, and I'm not sure if Mr. T has ink or not....  If he does, it's not jumping out at me.

And Dan, if we lived closer to each other, I would go with you.  Seriously.  I liked it well enough that I'm going to see it at least once more with a friend that couldn't go with me on Friday.  I've known other women that liked the show (the friend I'm going with is a chick, in fact) but they mostly liked it because of Dirk Benedict and/or George Peppard.  Won't lie, back in the heyday, I wouldn't have kicked them out of bed either, but I just like to watch shit blow up.  And I love Murdock.  He's fucking crazy and always makes me laugh.

There's lots of other shows and movies that I love that most other girls don't like, though.  I've just never been into girly shit.

We'd probably do lots of shit together....

How about Married with Children? (did we have this conversation before?)

Re: The A-Team

Verification from Peaches that it's not a piece of tripe makes it worth seeing to me. I use to watch the hell out of A-Team. Murdock was hilarious and I did love Peppard's role. Face annoyed me but I do think they picked a good, if not better, actor for his role. Mr. T's such an icon that I give dude kudos just for stepping into that hot spot.

We kinda did, but didn't get into specifics.

Yup.  I watched Married with Children, too.  The DVDs piss me off, though.  They couldn't talk Sinatra's estate into letting them use Love & Marriage for the theme song again, so they have to use a midi instead.  Same thing happened with the Tour of Duty DVDs only they now use some instrumental bullshit that isn't even the original song.

It is.  Go see it.  There's a bit of swearing in it but other than that I'd even say your boys would probably like it (since it's only PG13, they don't actually say FUCK but rather have loud explosions where they would say "fuck" instead.  I forsee a DVD extra that either lets it be heard or an unrated version in the future).  Guy playing Murdock was dead on.  Seriously.  I even read something yesterday that said after filming his cameo and seeing the whole scene, Dwight Schultz hugged Sharlto Copley and said that he WAS Murdock.  Bradley Cooper did really well, too, and won't lie, he walks around shirtless for a good bit of the movie and you won't complain.  And there are parts of the movie where Rampage seems to channel Mr. T.  When BA gets flustered and starts yelling, you could close your eyes and swear it was Mr. T.  And Liam Neeson was great too.  His Hannibal was on the jazz the whole movie.

Re: The A-Team

I wasn't a fan of the tv series.  As such, the movie looks stupid and I won't be seeing it.  Glad it lives up to the legacy for the fans of the franchise, though.

Re: The A-Team

I loved it! Had the biggest smile on my face whilst watching it.

Always loved the A-Team, with five brothers I had no choice.
