Yesterday I got to speak to Brain Mahoney (Detective Duffy), David Della Rocco (Rocco 'The Funny Man'), Taylor Duffy (Helped write both movies.  Yes he was uncredited for the first movie.  Also wrote some of the music), one of the producers (cant remember his name), and Troy Duffy (if I even have to explain who this is stop reading now)

So I dont know where you are getting your information but after speaking with them I would like to inform you all of the GOOD NEWS.  They do plan on making a 3rd movie (saying they get the funding too).  They have no title yet for the third one (at least thats what Taylor and Troy said, maybe not true).  They are currently working on the script now, but not that far from what I gathered.  They like to see what the fans liked and their questions so he can fill it in during the next movie (They did this with the second movie.  A lot of fans were asking about the brothers fathers back story.  How he was sent to jail, ect.)

Really funny I asked Troy Duff a similar question.  My question was "Both movies ended with a bang and just kind of left you hanging there wanting more.  Was there a reason you did this?"
Troy Duffy's response (Paraphrased) was:
He wanted to set up the first one for a second movie but leave it where if there is not it has still has rapped up the movie.  He also liked that by ending like the way he did it left the fans wanting more.  He also felt that movies should end that way not where everything is rapped up and everything is complete.

The reason it took so long for the second one was because there was a legal matter with the rights and they had to sue to get the rights to start the second one.  Just thought you might like to know.  They said the third one wont be as long.

At the end of boondock saints 2 it leaves you on a cliff hanger thinking that there WILL be a boondock saints 3...with smeaker and bloom busting the brothers out of prison. Well hells yea lets do it.

I met Sean Patrick Flanery about two months ago and he said that there probably will be one as long as there are boondock fans then there should be one and he is totally down for it.

I mean with William DaFoe involved in the end of boondock 2 and leaving us with the MacManus brothers NEEDING to get the hell out of prison. I mean really they cant stay in there it just isnt right.

SO i figure if we push it a little more with our badass fanism and buy and bunch of shit then there is a GREAT chance there will be another one...because you just cant make a movie without moola and the more moola you have put into a movie USUALLY it is more badass with effects and shit
