My Boondock Saints inspired (first ever) tat

http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/ii185/Boudeccea/mynewtat.jpg

This is my first tattoo and it is a big beautiful one.  I went it got it last night.  Since Boondock Saints is THE best movie ever made and I am Irish, I wanted my tat to reflect both.  The artist did a beautiful job with the intricate ropework cross.  We added the Sacred Heart of Jesus in the middle of the cross and my favorite words from the movie as well.  You can tell how new it is, the "plastic" is just starting.

I'm very proud of my beautiful tat and can't wait until it gets warmer so I can show it off. sport23

Is it just me, or does the heart have eyes?

It is just you.dohsmiley  That is the Sacred Heart of Jesus.  Since I just got it and there is still a bit of inflammation, what looks like eyes are actually thorns around the heart.

:woo:Thanks Firewolf, I think so too.  I was very impressed by the shop, the artist, and the work.  Especially considering how intricate/difficult Celtic crosses are!

What part of the country was that done in? I'm currently in NYC, but will be moving to Kenosha, Wisconsin in July & am looking for a really good tattoo artist in the Chicago, Milwaukee, area, but would be willing to travel farther for ink of that caliber!

Re: My Boondock Saints inspired (first ever) tat

Here is the website of the studio I went to http://www.holeinthewalltattoo.com/.  Dana is the one that did mine.  He and his wife own the shop, she does a lot of the art.  I realize that Conway, South Carolina (just outside of Myrtle Beach) is quite a ways away from either locale but it is worth it.

Re: My Boondock Saints inspired (first ever) tat

Well, unfortunately that is a hella long way for me, but I will post it to my very, very good friend Rew, who is like a little brother to me & lives in South Carolina. He's been wanting a tat for the longest time & had no idea where to go - now I give him this info - Many thanks, B!

Re: My Boondock Saints inspired (first ever) tat

Thanks, I love it.  I was very nervous going into it.  It is my first and it is rather large BUT everyone at the shop was so supportive that it really made it easy.  Getting it really didn't hurt (well....not much) BUT the aftercare is a pain in the butt! :-)

Re: My Boondock Saints inspired (first ever) tat

Thanks St. Brighid.  I love your name too (I happen to own a 9mm which is my favorite).  I'm suprised that you know the name, most people don't.  I knew I was in the right forum!

By the way, my tat is now 4-days old and is starting to get wicked ITCHY!  Anyone know a safe way to stop it?

Re: My Boondock Saints inspired (first ever) tat

Hmmm.... no scratching!!!
what are you treating it with?
A&D ointment will take 'some' of the itch away...
One thing I did was a light cover of ointment, then plastic wrap... heh, lightly slap it, it will sting but won't itch so much... just don't do it too often...

YMMV...

Re: My Boondock Saints inspired (first ever) tat

I haven't itched once, I've just got oodles of self control!

The shop gave me some cream but it doesn't seem to help a whole helluva lot.

Re: My Boondock Saints inspired (first ever) tat

Well, there are several 'balms and creams' on the market for Tattoo aftercare... A&D ointment is my favourite, next would be Tattoo Goo... if they haven't changed the formula...

Whatever you do... NO Neosporin!!!! it'll fuck up the tattoo...

Again, YMMV....

Re: My Boondock Saints inspired (first ever) tat

The best thing about fresh ink ... is if it looks great right after its done ( all poofy and red) Then after the healing process when your real detail comes threw you are impressed all over again. That is a great piece of ART you will have to resend when its healed.

I use tea tree oil - but I prefer to use products that are all-natural &/or organic when I can.  It goes back to my pseudo-Wicca period...
